The new range reflects both our heritage and northern roots and further more, offers the customer and consumer the quality and choice demanded in today's competitive market. The acquisition of Lancaster Bomber has further strengthened the portfolio and Thwaites now have a 4.4% Ale Brand, marketed as The Northern Beauty, backed by an advertising campaign which is eye catching and unique.
Brands such as Thwaites Smooth (a nitro keg beer) launched in 1995, after bowing to popular demand, continue to service the Brewery's heartland and beyond. Better known as The Northern Smoothie, Thwaites Smooth has now become an icon on the bars of the pubs in the North.
In the last few years, two outstanding German Lagers and a Weiss Bier have joined the portfolio. In May of 1998, Thwaites took on the sole U.K. distribution rights for Warsteiner in the On and Off Trade and have grown the brand six fold in the UK to well over 24,000 barrels. Warsteiner remains as the largest privately owned brewery in Germany and is now sold in over 60 countries worldwide.
And perhaps the most interesting addition to the Thwaites portfolio is Konig Ludwig, an imported Bavarian Weiss Bier (Wheat Beer) at 5.5% ABV. Still a niche opportunity, Thwaites see the speciality sector of the market as one of the most exciting opportunities to happen to the UK market in a long time and to have one of Bavaria's leading beers in the portfolio is yet another feather in the cap.
.All in all exciting times for Daniel Thwaites and it's brands and looking forward to the forthcoming 200th Anniversary in 2007, Thwaites believe they are better placed than ever before to meet the challenges ahead
